How To Clean An Old Pocket Knife

So you just bought an old antique knife from your local knife dealer or maybe a valued family member just gave you his/her old pocket knife as a gift?

Most likely your admiring it's beauty but wish that new knife look was back staring you in the face. All that grease and grime is certainly unattractive!

Well the good news is that surface grease and grime is fairly easy to remove.

The easiest and fastest way is to boil some water, stick the metal parts of the knife in the water for around 30-60 seconds and then remove. Take an old toothbrush and scrub away to remove any leftover dirt.

Be careful not to put any plastic parts in the water! You will melt them. If possible, remove all plastic or rubber parts.

This technique will almost always work wonders. Simple yet effective!

Granted, it will be almost impossible to make the knife look like it just came out of the box but you will notice a huge difference!

If the grease and grime is really stuck on the knife then you will have to use a little more persuasion.

Good ole WD-40 is a very good choice. Just spray on and use the toothbrush to remove the dirt.

After your done removing the dirt, wipe the knife down with a wet, clean cloth and then a dry clean cloth.

Then take some 3 in 1 oil and lubricate all metal parts, especially the moving parts. Don't apply too much, just a light coat.

Follow these simple steps and you will have an old pocket knife looking like new in no time!
