Benchmade Knife Company, Inc. was founded in California in 1988 but eventually settled in Clackamas, Oregon in 1990.
Starting out small with limited resources meant learning how to tap into vast resources to produce quality knives. Benchmade soon grew which led to the purchasing of some of the most advanced manufacturing equipment used for making knives. These included lasers, the first knife company to use this technology.
Benchmade knives combines modern technology with the knowledge of custom knifemakers to produce knives that have the features and quality of custom knives but the speed and efficiency of cutting edge manufacturing. The blade materials are also hand selected for the knife's intended use and edge characteristics.
Benchmade's modern laser cutting machining equipment can be dailed in to tolerences of 0.0005" and are controlled with the precision of equipment found in the aerospace industry. The knives are also hand assembled to ensure a custom like knife that feels tight, durable and looks like it "goes together."
